Biography

Cambridge, MA

Jahmel “Melz” McClamy is a 17-year-old emerging songwriter and rapper from Cambridge, Mass., and is determined to make his presence known in the music industry. Since forming his rap group “FastLife” in 2010, Melz has closed out local school talent shows and has even opened up for artists such as “Kid Ink,” and “Asher Roth.” Although Melz is still in his teen years, he expresses that he takes his music seriously as a profession and he his 100% dedicated to creating good music.

Melz held a mixtape release party on July 29th at the Middle East in Cambridge, Mass., to celebrate the release of his debut solo mixtape “Up & Coming,” which is hosted by Boston’s own “Wally Sparkz.” The mixtape “Up & Coming” will feature other artists such as “Millyz,” “Dayne Donovan,” and a special featured track featuring “Ike Dolo,” who happens to be the father of the talented rapper Melz.

Inspired by artists such as Jay Z, Kanye West, P Diddy, J Cole, Kendrick Lamar, and Drake, Melz has a creative, versatile style that cannot be characterized. His music is based on life experiences and expectations, and he wants his fans to hear it from the mind set of a 17-year-old young man who is determined to just be heard.

Although Melz is just now dropping his first solo mixtape, he has already proven to be considered a local celebrity. Melz has already received over 3,000 hits on his first YouTube video “We Rollin,” which was just posted in March of this year. The video features CeeDee, a member from his group “FastLife.” The first single off the mixtape, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” produced by L. Sanchez, can also be heard on YouTube. Melz mixtape, “Up & Coming,” is available for download on Dattpiff.com and Soundcloud.com, under @melzfastlivin.

At the age of 13 Melz started exploring his musical talent by writing. Melz decided to take his music career seriously at the age of 15, which was his freshman year of high school, when he and some friends decided to form a group called “Fast Life.” In addition to Melz, the group consisted of 4 other members. Calvin Kantor, aka “CK3,” Connor Donovan, aka “CeeDee,” Spencer Santos, aka “Tazz the Truth,” and Marcus Mendosa, aka “Beezy”. The group “FastLife” has opened up for artists such as “Asher Roth” in December 2011, and “Kid Ink” in February 2012. Both shows were held at the Middle East in Cambridge, Mass. In April of 2012, Melz made his first solo appearance at the “Honey Pot” in Seabrook, New Hampshire, where he opened up for some of New England’s own local artists.

Melz found trouble at a very young age and his music became his outlet, his “escape” as he calls it. Melz witnessed a lot of friends going in and out of jail at a very young age and he says this made him feel like he was at a crossroad. Seeing this made Melz even more determined to make his music become a success.

I'M so proud of all that you've accomplished in such a short period of time. I remember when you began your journey through rap. I still have the raps you would leave laying around my house. Continue to pursue your dreams and maintain the balance with your school work.
Love Aunty
