Last update: 01/26/12 08:18:24 Location: AMERICA NORTH: USA: Vermont (VT) Signed up: 02 Jul 2010 07:38 PM Real Name: Nas Tee Gender: Male Website: http://4wordproductions.org eMail: thevtunionmixshow@yahoo.com |
Nastee has done his thing is this music game. He started out as a DJ in the Dirty Bean (Boston, Mass) in the early/mid 80's. As a teenager, his family moved around alot so his first "real" dj experience happened in New Orleans with fourth generation Neville Brothers family's Dizzy D. They did shows, performed on the radio and did their thing anywhere they could. In 1990 Nastee moved 2 NYC and jumped in the industry head first DJing group signed to Reprise/Warner Bros. called "Unity 2" (one of the first signed hip hop bands with a DJ) as well as connecting with the mighty Boogie Down Productions and DJing for "Harmony" (Virgin). "Harmony" wuz Ms. Melodie's sister and produced by KRS One. From there the natural next step was engineering & producing. Nastee's first production gig was doin' beats for a group out of Toronto called "Dream Warriors" ("Back'n'Forth" & "My Style Ain't Free") but it wuz never released. His first engineering gig was with "Lordz Of Brooklyn" on Ventrue/American. He then linked up with Dante Ross and SD50 and produced three tracks for a Long Island group signed to Atlantic Records called "Hard 2 Obtain" ("Sh*t We Do", "Ghetto Diamond" & "Hip Hop Lifestyle"). Around the same time he started workin' with reggae/hip hop icon Bobby Konders doin' remixes 4 Cutty Ranks ("Living Condition"), Burro Banton ("Big Man a Chill"), Bounty Killa featuring Jeru The Damaja ("Suicide Murda") among others. In 1995 Nastee landed a gig as the head engineer at The Cutting Room Studios in Manhattan and worked with all the top hip hop artists of that time including Mobb Deep, Big Pun, Noreaga, Busta Rhymez, 50 Cent (b-4 "How 2 Rob"), Crooked Lettaz (David Banner), Das EFX, dead prez and others... He also mixed one of Mobb Deep's biggest records "Quiet Storm" (first single off their platinum LP "Murda Muzik") and Peter Gunz & Lord Tariq platinum single "Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)". On the production side he produced songs 4 Wu-Tang affiliate Killah Priest "Tha Last Supper" (unreleased), "My Hood" and "Come With Me" (Priesthood LP). In 2000 fed up with the music industry in NYC, Nastee relocated back to Boston and then, in 2003, moved up to Burlington, Vermont to pursue his own independent music grind. He made a name in Burlington as an M.C. and DJ with 3-4 local gigs around town per week and a very popular radio show called "The Statik Music Mixtape" which was heard every monday @ 3pm on WRUV FM Burlington. He also opened up 4 heavywieghts KRS One, Immortal Technique, GZA, Common, Talib Kweli, Termanology, The Beatnuts, Jurassic 5, C. Rayz Walz, Smif-n-Wesson and others... In 2005 Nastee began to re-connect with his allies in the NY music industry and in 2006 mixed T.I.'s "The King's Back" off of the platinum "King" album. The song was produced by former Cutting Room studio manager turned super producer Just Blaze who Nastee proudly watched go from studio intern to be one of the top producers in hip hop and R & B. Around this time, continuing his independent vision, Nastee formed a collective of hip hop artists in Vermont called VT Union and released two mixtape albums that featured Smif n Wesson, Termanology, Craig G. and RA the Rugged Man. Then in 2009 Nastee released his first solo CD called "The Album B4 The Album" that built a solid buzz locally and on sites like kevinnottingham.com and datpiff.com. It also garnered a digital distribution deal for solo releases with industry vet Al Lindstrom. The grind continues in 2010, with production on Donny Goines' "20X" EP ("Not Your Fault"), three tracks on Craig G & Mr. Cheeks' upcoming collaboration called "Strike Team" and a yet to be released Termanolgy track called "Bad Dream", which Nastee also has directed an animated video for. Also, VT Union's last release is slated to drop in late Spring 2010 and features Malice from Clipse and Sean Price. Nastee will then drop his next solo CD with Al Lindstrom's ALM Group. The CD features Raekwon & Smif n Wesson. With a long and successful career in music already in the books it seems as though Nastee's over due shine is on the horizon!
