Biography

Once upon a time there was a warrior, a princess a rocker and a b-girl... from all corners of the world coming together to change the face of music… An Asian, rocker/rapper, an Indian soul singer, a Russian breaker/ballerina and a Jamaican pop princess forming the new voice of change and female empowerment, while striving for excellence and success through music... in a nutshell: the American Dream! But take a closer look because things are not always as they seem.... meet Shea, Tanu, Kat and CJ, the ladies of NO MEANS YES!

Born to Chinese/Vietnamese mother and Caucasian father of Irish decent, Los Angeles native and NMY member Kat (“the Rocker”) is special breed. At the tender age of eight her mother, the backbone of the family recognized the shine within the small star and immediately enrolled her in the community singing and dancing classes where Kat learned the art of ballet, jazz, modern and Hip-Hop dance. Her skills landed her international opportunities, dancing for artists such as Tyrese, LL Cool J, Chingy and Snoop Dogg. She is an undeniable and steadfast talent, adding a truly amazing element to N.M.Y.

With diverse tastes and eclectic influences Jamaican/East Indian born member Shea ("The Warrior") credits her unique melodies and writing style from being a student and true lover of ALL music. "My musical influences range from rock, hip-hop, r&b, reggae, folk, electronica to indie pop! I study EVERYTHING! Including artists like James Brown, Elvis, James Taylor, The Carpenters, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Michael and Janet Jackson, Elton John, Prince, Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, the Beatles, Coldplay, Santogold... I'd say my musical tastes are pretty diverse!” says an excited Shea. The New York native, was previously signed to Souldiggaz Production, where she gained invaluable one-on-one training under the direction of Multi-platinum rapper/singer/entrepreneur Missy Elliot.... and she's just getting started!

Internationally acclaimed dancer and performer, CJ (“the B-girl”), studied abroad as a teenager with the dream of performing in the States. Raised in Latvia (a small country just outside of Russia), the graduate of the Latvian National Ballet School was accepted at the School of Alvin Alley and moved to New York to pursue her goals. Upon turning 18 years of age, the Portugese and Venezuelan firecracker, quickly dove into Broadway dance and signed to Bloc Agency for acting, modeling and dance. As a developing entertainer she discovered a little songbird inside her scrambling to come out. “My true passion is to glorify my creator through the arts and inspire others to dream beyond the sky,” says CJ, “No Means Yes will be the platform for me to spread my wings and we will soar,” says CJ.

Singer/Songwriter, Tanu ("The Princess"), is splash of pop, a dash of rock, a pinch of R&B with an East Indian-American zeal to call her own. From opening up with Grammy nominated artists such as Destiny's Child, Mary Mary, Ashanti and Musiq to performing at Kennedy Center and the White House, this show-stopping beauty is eager to contribute to the missing gap within the music industry. Known as the "The Silent Killer Pen" her songwriting skills have proven successful for artists such as Amerie, Mya, Carmen and a stellar list of notables. This talented young lady says “Music is my life and God willing, the world will hear my story."

These four fierce, confident, intelligent and swaggalicious divas are destined to set the stage for a new musical world order... combining the performance styles of Janet Jackson, Britney Spears and Madonna, the moxie of Pink, the character of TLC, and the international flare of the Spice Girls with an unexpected twist, giving audiences an awesomely entertaining show, complete with amazing music and theatrics... sure to captivate audiences around the globe!.
Scratch the surface and you'll find that these multi-racial, multi-cultural, bilingual ladies are a refreshing difference from the norm. They believe no dream should be differed, and that stereotypes are meant to be broken... so stay tuned, because No Means Yes is ready to take over the world, one song at a time... are you ready???
